How Lucia realized her talent
From the time she started singing in church as a child, music was her first love. When her teaching post fell through she swapped the classroom for stage and lights. Lucia’s professional breakthrough highlights both as a singer and actress:
She does not only illustrate her understanding of the breadth of possibilities in the jazz idiom but also reveals her talent as a performer. Songs often suggest and recall moments in our own lives and listeners must surely be aware that her previous performances contained many personal but private meaning to the artist.
In the past couple of years Lucia has consistently wowed audiences with her deep sultry voice reminiscent of divas of song like Shirley Bassey, Ernestine Anderson and the mother of Rock Tina Turner, (which got rave reviews from Musical Theatre critics), Nina Simone and Miriam Makeba, (she was hence nominated for an award for playing a young Miriam in a stage play “Kippie Moeketsi’). She has been a Headliner on Motown Gold for several years bringing the house down with Thelma Houston’s “Don’t leave me this way”.
